To begin the story at the beginning, read "Part 1: Post 1: Beginning Again," published in January, 2013. To consult a description of the campus, read "Part 1: Post 14: The Greening of Campus," published in March, 2013.

Joe

The name "Joe" also refers to a bizarrely large number of people, though they do have differentiated nicknames. In most cases, the name refers to one of three people:

Joe (without a nickname) usually refers to the head of housekeeping, who supervises the janitor crew and keeps cleaning supplies properly stocked. He lives on campus, but rarely interacts socially with community members. No one knows him well. He is a professional dancer and heads a small but fairly prestigious dance troop off-campus. He is tall and slim and notably effeminate, although he does not self-identify as gay. He also does not self-identify as straight. If he has a love-life, no one on campus knows about it.

Security Joe is the head of security on campus. As such, he trains and supervises a team of students who look over campus regularly. He is a retired police officer and lives on campus with his husband, who is also named Joe. They have a grown son together, named Rob. Security Joe is transgendered, but few people guess this, despite his being very short and wiry. He is in his sixties and has short dark hair and a slightly olive complexion. He does not wear a beard, but sometimes has a distinct five-o-clock shadow.

Cuppa Joe is Security Joe's husband. He is not a staff member, and lives on campus only to be with Security Joe, though he sometimes participates in community activities and has many friends on campus. He works as a produce manager at a nearby grocery store, where he is approaching retirement. He is in his early sixties and is tall and slim, with dark hair and a short beard.
